Manado, October 18, 2024 – Students of Tadris Bahasa Inggris (TBI) at IAIN Manado participated in a thought-provoking sharing session organized by the TBI Student Association (HMPS TBI). The event, which took place on October 18, 2024, at the IAIN Manado campus, focused on the theme “Digital Literacy in Language Learning”. The session was designed to help students enhance their understanding of the role of digital tools and platforms in language education.
The guest speaker for the session, Dr. Ahmad Mustamir Waris, M.Pd., a renowned expert in language education and digital literacy, shared valuable insights into how technology has revolutionized the way we approach language learning. Dr. Waris, as well as English lecturer and someone who has extensive experience in integrating digital tools into education, explained the importance of digital literacy in today’s learning environment. He emphasized that digital literacy is no longer just an optional skill but an essential component of modern education, particularly in language acquisition.
“Digital tools such as apps, online resources, and multimedia platforms provide students with access to a wealth of information and learning materials that can enhance their language skills,” Dr. Waris stated. He also highlighted how online platforms like language exchange apps and social media can offer students opportunities to practice language skills outside the classroom, fostering a more interactive and global learning experience.
The session also included practical demonstrations of various digital tools that students can use to improve their language learning experience, such as language learning apps, educational websites, and virtual classrooms. Participants were encouraged to explore these resources and incorporate them into their own study routines to maximize their learning potential.
The sharing session was well-received by TBI students, with many engaging in discussions about how they could integrate digital tools into their academic practices. It was an excellent opportunity for students to not only learn about digital literacy but also reflect on how it can help them as future educators to teach language more effectively.
HMPS TBI IAIN Manado continues to provide relevant and forward-thinking events to equip students with essential skills for their academic and professional futures. The event concluded with a Q&A session, where students had the chance to ask Dr. Waris further questions about digital literacy and its applications in language learning.
The success of this event marked another step in IAIN Manado’s commitment to preparing students for the demands of 21st-century education, ensuring that they are well-equipped with the digital tools necessary for success in the ever-evolving world of language teaching and learning. FS
