Manado, September 11, 2024 — On September 11, 2024, the English Education Study Program Students at IAIN Manado hosted a workshop aimed at equipping students with essential skills for creating effective research papers and PowerPoint presentations. The event was well-attended, drawing students eager to enhance their academic abilities.
The workshop commenced with a comprehensive session on writing research papers, led by Abdillah Adiputra and Adrian Lovonita, a coordinator and co-coordinator in the field of SND English education. They emphasized the importance of choosing a relevant topic, conducting thorough literature reviews, and structuring papers logically. “A strong thesis statement is the backbone of your research paper,” Adrian stated, encouraging students to focus on clarity and coherence in their writing.
Following the writing session, the focus shifted to developing impactful PowerPoint presentations. Abdillah and Adrian, a skilled multimedia educator, guided students through the essential elements of effective slide design. They shared practical tips, such as using bullet points for clarity, incorporating visuals to enhance understanding, and maintaining consistent formatting throughout the presentation. “Remember, less is more,” Mr. Adrian advised, urging students to avoid clutter and keep their slides engaging.
Participants actively engaged in discussions and hands-on activities, practicing the skills they had learned. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, allowing students to seek clarification on specific challenges they face in their academic work.
The event received positive feedback from attendees. “This workshop has been incredibly helpful,” said Jihan, a second-year student. “I feel more confident in my ability to write research papers and create presentations that communicate my ideas effectively.”
The English Education Study Program plans to hold more workshops in the future, aiming to support students in their academic journey and prepare them for professional challenges ahead. FS
