IAIN-Manado, September 2nd and 3rd, 2024 — The English Language Education Program (Prodi Tadris Bahasa Inggris) successfully conducted the preliminary round for Debate in Gen Z English Competition 2024 via Zoom. This virtual event provided a platform for students to demonstrate their English language skills through various competitions including debate, English speech, storytelling, and singing.
The online format did not dampen the enthusiasm of participants as they engaged in a series of compelling activities. The day kicked off with the debate preliminaries, where students from diverse backgrounds sparred on pressing global issues, showcasing their critical thinking and articulation skills through a digital medium.
Following the debate, the English speech competition allowed participants to deliver powerful speeches on a range of topics. Despite the virtual setting, students captivated the audience with their persuasive and impactful presentations.
The storytelling segment was a highlight of the event, with participants using the YouTube platform to share creative and engaging narratives. Their ability to weave captivating stories was a testament to their command of the English language and their storytelling prowess.
The competition concluded with a vibrant singing segment, where contestants performed a variety of English songs through YouTube videos. The performances, although delivered through a screen, were filled with energy and showcased the participants’ musical talent and linguistic abilities.
The virtual nature of the Gen Z English Competition 2024 enabled broader participation and provided a unique opportunity for students to connect and showcase their talents despite physical distances.
